IPC to build new plant in Pleasanton Industrial Park
Date Posted: August 22, 2007
For immediate release.
At a special joint meeting of the Linn County Commission, and Pleasanton City Council, Linn County Economic Development Director Dennis Arnold announced that IPC, an Iowa based precast concrete company, will be building its newest plant on 70 acres in the Pleasanton Industrial Park. Pleasanton is on the southern edge of the Kansas City MSA. The industrial park is located approximately 50 miles south of Kansas City on 69 Highway.
IPC manufactures precast wall panels, bridge components, beams, columns, and specialized building components. The company will break ground in October, and is scheduled to be operational by May of 2008. The Pleasanton plant will employ 30 people initially, and plans to employ 100 within about 36 months. The average wage for hourly employees will be approximately $14.57 an hour with a full benefit package including health insurance, dental, and life insurance, 401k, and paid vacation.
“This is wonderful news”, said Commission Chairman Jim Ferrante,.” It is the culmination of a lot of hard work and preparation. The economic impact of 100 jobs will be felt throughout the county”.
IPC, founded in 1956, has facilities in Iowa Falls, Des Moines, and West Burlington with over 250 employees. It is a subsidiary of Cretex, a corporation of over 2000 employees across the Midwest.
We are delighted to welcome IPC to Kansas,” said Kansas Department of Commerce Secretary David D. Kerr. “I’m sure the company will find the City of Pleasanton and the state of Kansas to be a great fit, and we look forward to working with the organization for years to come.
IPC President Matt McAllister, responded to a direct mail piece sent out through a tricounty marketing campaign initiated by Arnold. The campaign was partially funded by a grant from the Kansas Dept. of Commerce. McAllister, and Production Manager Mike Whittenbaugh, visited the Pleasanton site in late June, and met with state and local officials. Arnold visited their Iowa Falls plant a few weeks later.
“We are extremely fortunate to have a company of this caliber locate in Pleasanton”, said Arnold,” the Pleasanton site is well configured for their type of business, and their utility needs can be met with existing infrastructure. Identifying cost effective local raw materials was a critical issue.
“IPC is excited to be establishing a new plant in Pleasanton.” said McAllister, “We want to thank Dennis Arnold and other community officials for their assistance in helping us reach the decision to come to Pleasanton. We were convinced that Pleasanton was the right spot for IPC based on the availability of well qualified labor in the area and Pleasantons' proximity to the Kansas City marketplace. We look forward to becoming a part of the Pleasanton and Linn County community.”
IPC plans on investing $ 5-7 million on their new facility.
